A combined cycle power plant uses a combination of a gas turbine and a steam turbine, connected by a heat recovery steam generator, to generator electricity. The units are most typically fueled by natural gas and are very efficient. With large quantities of natural gas available in the US, combined cycle power plants are expected to be a major component in utility generation fleets for many years.
