Compressed Air Energy Storage
In Compressed Air Energy Storage, you'll learn ...
- The history of compressed air energy plants
- The storage requirements of CAES
- The basis of underground storage for CAES
- The advantages of each type of underground storage medium
Overview
This 3-hour course discusses the use of compressed air to "store" large volumes of electrical energy. The course covers the currently operating plants, storage options, the various types of plants, and the future concepts for compressed air plants.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Summarize the history of compressed air energy storage (CAES) plants.
- Describe the storage requirements of CAES.
- Explain the basis of underground storage for CAES.
- Compare the advantages of different types of underground storage media.
- Describe how a conventional CAES plant operates.
- Explain why a recuperator is used in CAES.
- Identify the advantages of steam injection in CAES.
- Explain why heat must be added back to compressed air.
- Describe the benefits of CAES to the utility industry.
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 25 questions. CPD credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
