The two most common project management approaches are Agile and waterfall. Agile uses iterative methods while waterfall is a series of distinct phases or stages. The integration of Agile and waterfall methods is known as hybrid management. Hybrid management is now common for a variety of engineering projects.

This course provides examples for applying hybrid management approaches to engineering projects. Common hybrid methods for engineering projects include Stage-Gates with Iterations and Long Lead Planning. The course also reviews common Agile methods that can be incorporated into engineering projects, including Scrum, Kanban, value stream mapping, Extreme Programming (XP), Lean, and Crystal.

Also covered are organizational practices that can foster the integration of Agile methods into engineering projects. Challenges with Agile and hybrid management of engineering projects are also reviewed.
