Transmission Line Design (Volume I) - Planning
In Transmission Line Design (Volume I) - Planning, you'll learn ...
- Transmission line siting considerations
- The purpose, preparation, content and utility of transmission line plan-profile drawings
- Methods to reduce the risk of cascading transmission line structures due to broken wires
- Considerations when placing underbuild distribution or communications circuits on transmission lines
Overview
This 4-hour course is the first in a series of courses on the design of medium voltage electrical transmission lines. This first course addresses the factors to consider when locating a transmission line, including the preparation of plan and profile drawings and the evaluation of transmission loading.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- The process of transmission line siting
- Permits, easements, licenses, franchises, and authorizations that commonly need to be obtained for transmission lines
- How to develop and use plan and profile drawings
- How to develop a sag template
- The loading issues related to transmission lines
- The NESC loading zones
- Extreme ice and wind loads
- The applicable strength factors for line design
- The factors related to distribution underbuild
- How underbuild will influence maximum spans
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 25 questions. CPD credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
