Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) for NPDES Construction Sites
In Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) for NPDES Construction Sites , you'll learn ...
- The necessary steps for developing and implementing an effective SWPPP
- Key principles and best practices for preventing contamination of stormwater from a wide range of materials and wastes at a construction site
- Effective methods of erosion and sediment control (ESC)
- Guidelines for site inspections, maintenance activities, and recordkeeping
Overview
Water quality can be dramatically impacted by inadequate construction site erosion and sediment control measures. For these reasons, the Environmental Protection Agency regulates even relatively small construction sites under the Phase II National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) regulations. The most critical requirement of the NPDES construction site general permit is the preparation and implementation of a SWPPP.
This course explains how to develop and implement a SWPPP. The course is intended for practicing engineers, contractors, developers, regulators, and all other personnel involved with construction sites. Understanding the requirements for the creation and implementation of a SWPPP is essential to staying in compliance with the law. Moreover, an adequately designed SWPPP is the primary tool needed to reduce water quality impacts from construction activities.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Determine when an NPDES construction-site SWPPP is required and identify the federal requirements that govern it.
- Develop the required SWPPP elements, roles, site-analysis information, erosion controls, and best management practices for a representative site.
- Inspect BMP implementation and maintenance needs against stated SWPPP objectives and site conditions.
- Complete the conceptual sequence for certification, notification, implementation, final stabilization, and permit termination.
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 25 questions. CPD credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
