This 5-hour course is the seventh in a series of courses on the design of electrical substations. The courses do not necessarily have to be taken in order and, for the most part, are stand-alone courses.

This course covers non-oil filled substation equipment that is used in substations.

• Describe the margins of protection provided by surge arresters.
• Apply the principles for selecting and using a metal oxide arrester.

• Distinguish among the types of instrument transformers.
• Identify when combination instrument transformers are used.
• Describe the application of coupling capacitors.
