Substations - Volume II: Physical Layout
In Substations - Volume II: Physical Layout, you'll learn ...
- The importance of considering maintenance, redundancy and future system growth in the layout of a substation
- Typical bus configurations for distribution, transmission, and switching substations
- The types of surge arrestors and mast shielding used to protect substation equipment
- Electrical clearances for outdoor substation construction
Overview
This 3-hour course is the second in a series of courses on the design of electrical substations. The courses do not necessarily have to be taken in order and, for the most part, are stand-alone courses.
This course covers the general layout of a substation, typical bus configurations, insulation protection, substation insulators, and clearances.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- The parameters associated with transmission substations
- How switching substations are used
- Typical bus configurations used in each type of substation
- The relative cost differences among the various designs
- How insulation protection schemes are designed
- The required electrical clearances for substation operation
- How to apply derating factors to substation equipment
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 25 questions. CPD credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
