Green Roofs: Increase the Energy Performance of Your Building
In Green Roofs: Increase the Energy Performance of Your Building, you'll learn ...
- What is a green roof and how it can increase the energy performance of a building
- Advantages and disadvantages of green roofs compared to reflective roofs
- Other green roof benefits in urban areas, including stormwater runoff control, air quality improvements, noise reduction, and aesthetics
- Roof slope and structural requirements to accommodate green roofs
Overview
Because of their many energy-saving and environmental benefits, green roofs are a promising technology for energy- efficient buildings. In a green roof, a layer of vegetation covers the surface of the roof to provide shade, cool indoor and outdoor temperatures, provide storm water management, and more.
In this course you will learn about the benefits of green roofs and the types of buildings and roofing systems that are suitable for retrofit, as well as new-build installations of a green roof.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify the benefits and applications of green roofs.
- Explain the mechanisms by which green roofs save energy.
- Describe the architectural and structural criteria for green roofs.
- Identify barriers to green roof implementation.
- Explain why green roofs provide energy savings in both summer and winter.
- Describe why converting conventional roof surfaces to green roofs can reduce or delay stormwater runoff on a large scale.
- Explain the installation, integration, and maintenance of green roofs.
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 15 questions. CPD credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
